Featured Pets: Ash, Sophie, Snowball, Raven, Ophelia, & Onyx

As we were preparing to welcome our first small animal guests at Suzanne’s Place, we were communicating with a hamster rescue in Maine. The rescue had a horde of hamsters that needed further assistance with finding homes, and found our Sanctuary to be the perfect place where they could continue receiving excellent care until they got adopted. Initially, we anticipated seven hamster guests, but we were happy to welcome an eighth hamster to Suzanne’s Place! Our cottage went from one Sanctuary guest, Luna the guinea pig, to now nine guests! There was a lot of buzz and excitement welcoming these critter cuties!

In July of 2024, we welcomed Ash, Chloe, Sophie, Snowball, Raven, Luna, Little Girl, and Onyx! All eight hamsters received their very own habitat, full of comfy bedding, an exercise wheel, places to climb and hide, as well as lots of enriching activities and toys! Hamsters absolutely love to burrow and will often sleep mostly throughout the day, therefore it is important to have a thick layer of bedding for your hamster to dig, burrow, and have a restful sleep! During their first month with us, we sadly lost sweet angels Chloe and Little Girl. This left Ash, Sophie, Snowball, Raven, Onyx, and Luna. We did decide to change Luna’s name to Ophelia since we already had another small animal named Luna and we figured it’d be less confusing to have separate names. During their short time with us, they have made such incredible strides towards becoming more comfortable with us! We’ve learned so much about each of their personalities; their likes, dislikes, favorite spots to burrow, and even what activities they enjoy the most!

Ash is a female Black Syrian Hamster that is a little over a year old. She absolutely loves her playtime; her favorite activity is supervised free roam time exploring outside of her habitat! You’ll also catch her getting her steps in by running on her wheel! If you’re seeking a hamster that loves to have fun, then Ash is your girl!

Sophie is another female Black Syrian Hamster that is now 6 months old. She is one of the more social hamsters of the group and doesn’t mind being picked up to walk on your lap! She also doesn’t mind waking up from her naps to say hello to her friends, especially when they have treats! She has such an inquisitive, curious personality that has stolen many hearts!

Snowball is female White Syrian Hamster, around 18 months old. She’s the eldest of the crew, and is also the calmest! She will happily accept snuggles and pets on your lap, and just simply enjoys quality time with her friends! She loves getting her beauty sleep so a quiet home would fit princess Snowball’s needs perfectly! If you’re seeking a calm, peaceful hamster, Snowball might be the fit for you!

Raven is 4 months old, and also another female Black Syrian Hamster. Just like a raven, hamster Raven is clever, smart and quick-witted! She absolutely loves to explore inside and outside of her habitat during her free roam time! She will happily climb on everything in her habitat, curious about every inch of her surroundings! She also loves getting her exercise on her wheel, which seems to be one of her favorite past times. She’s still learning how to be comfortable being held by her friends, therefore a gentle, patient person would be a great fit for ravishing Raven!

Ophelia, previously known as Luna, is a 9 month old Black Syrian Hamster. She has warmed up to her new friends and has shared with us her friendly, sweet personality! She doesn’t mind being picked up and will enjoying your lap for bonding time with her human! She’s also quite funny when she grabs treats from our hands and stores them in her cheeks for snack time later that day! She’s sure to bring a smile to your face!

Last, but certainly not least, we have Onyx! Onyx is our only male Black Syrian Hamster, and is now around 4 months old. He is quite energetic and loves being active! Whether he’s exploring, enjoying his enrichment activities, or happily munching on his chew toys, he loves being busy! He does get a bit nervous with handling, but has been making great strides with her friends! He would love someone that is gentle, patient, and loves to have fun!
