Woodrow, nicknamed Woody, is a very special kitty who needed a rescue that could specialize his care routines and medical needs. Woody has Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH), a congenital neurological condition where the cerebellum (the part of the brain controlling balance and coordination) doesn’t develop fully, leading to wobbly movements and balance issues. He previously was in a foster home that nursed him back to health, but wanted him to receive more intensive care and we were happy to welcome him to our Sanctuary when he was 7-months-old.

*Please note that cats with CH aren’t in any pain or discomfort, and can live healthy, happy lives just like other cats!

Woody is not our first cat with CH, but every CH case and care is different. In Woody’s case, he’s unable to stabilize on his feet, therefore he moves around mostly using his front nails to pull the rest of his body from place to place. Our incredible Cat Team has been innovating new ways to help Woody navigate his daily activities. They have used a sling to help him eat, a special food bowl, a low pan to use the litter box, and covering his floor with rugs and soft blankets to help both his nails grip while moving and for his body to be comfortable on the floor.
Woody proves he may move differently, but he isn’t in pain – he loves to play with wand toys, ribbons, and strings; he loves to snuggle during his down time and receive pets, and is able to get around quite well when he is motivated to! Woody has stolen the hearts of all the humans he is meeting, and he is even making some cat friends while he shares a large open area with GeeBee and Tank. Bonus: now that the weather is warming, he has also been enjoying some fresh air in his catio. Welcome to the family, Woody!
