Featured Pet: Ralph

In his previous home, four year old Ralph was experiencing a severe urinary blockage. Though it’s not completely understood how urinary obstruction occurs; infections, diet, or trauma usually play a role. His untreated condition was so critical, he was barely conscious when he arrived to the vet. Usually urinary blockages can be treated with medication, but with Ralph’s serious state, he needed surgery to survive.

Unable to financially afford the cost of care, his ownership was relinquished to the vet. Still, the vet did not want to move forward with the surgery if there wasn’t a concrete plan for his aftercare and a place for him to recover. Hearing about Ralph’s desperate situation, Our Companions stepped in and offered him a place at the Sanctuary. The vet was able to move forward with the surgery and we were given the opportunity to care for such a lovely, sweet boy!

After being the notorious “cone head” at the Sanctuary for three months, Ralph fully recovered and was able to enjoy life without any restrictions! After experiencing a urinary blockage, you do have to keep a watchful eye to make sure it doesn’t occur again. Still, so far so good, Ralph hasn’t had any further issues and has perfect litter box manners!

Not only is Ralph an exceptionally handsome guy, but he certainly has an exuberant personality to match! He is very confident, social, affectionate, and even has a little bit of mischief in him! Somehow when Ralph is around, cupboards tend to magically open and items on counters tend to get knocked down…So strange! To keep his mischievousness at bay, staff and volunteers provide Ralph with plenty of play time every day. And boy, does he love it! Ralph will grasp at any opportunity to play with his friends! He thoroughly enjoys the enrichment and bonding time he receives and thanks all of his friends with snuggles!

Being such a social butterfly, Ralph helps out during public hours and greets visitors coming to the Sanctuary. With this second chance at life, and his medical issues resolved, Ralph is ready to start the next big adventure- a new family and home! Ralph is certainly the life of the party and would love to have fun with someone that would appreciate his unique, outgoing personality.
