Featured Pet: April

During her first night at the Sanctuary, April immediately hopped up on our laps, seeking love and affection. It’s been almost a year since her arrival to the Sanctuary, and not only does she still claim everyone’s laps, she’s also claimed our hearts!

Coming from animal control, this seven year old beauty was at first a bit nervous trying to acclimate to her new environment at the Sanctuary. Over time, she found comfort in the laps of her friends and appreciated the patience and love she was given to help flourish. Play time also gave April the opportunity to come out of her shell! She’s fascinated by feather toys and enjoys fun time with her friends!

Just like a blossoming flower, April slowly gained confidence and trust in her human friends to the point of refusing to leave any of their laps! She loves greeting her friends when they enter her room and would wait for that magical moment of them taking a seat so she could hop up and receive some love! We even have to bribe her with treats sometimes to get her off! Still, it’s hard to say no to such a gorgeous girl, so we would sometimes accept our fate as a permanent lap fixture for her to enjoy.

As her confidence was growing, it was time for April to find her people and a lap that would be solely hers. As we were on the search for that home, April developed a heart murmur which needed further investigation. After an echocardiogram, she was diagnosed with mild Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). HCM is a condition where the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick, sometimes causing the blood to not pump as effectively. Though this condition can sound a bit scary, it was actually good news to hear that there wasn’t any evidence of structural heart disease! A follow up echo confirmed that her condition was mild and she would only need a follow up if the heart murmur persists.

Though April has a springtime name, she was an absolute favorite this winter season! She has now progressed from claiming everyone’s laps to wrapping herself around everyone’s necks! She is now the best “scarf” to rock, keeping us warm with her purrs. April loves her new-found spot so much, she’ll even drool a bit! How sweet!

All in all, April is the perfect package that would love to have a person she could claim as her own! If you’re looking for a companion cat that’ll keep you warm and loved at night, April is your girl! Great video. I am sure she will find a forever home. We have 3 cats and one of them looks just like April. Thank you for all you do.

Really nice video! She’s certainly a sweet, sweet gal. I do hope that this gal can find a good forever home. It’s too bad she couldn’t come stay with me and Mia. But, I understand her need to be the only animal in her new home 🙂
