Freddie previously lived in a home with an elderly owner, but was well-known by local animal control officers. Freddie was notorious for door darting out of his home and roaming the streets in the neighborhood. When an animal control officer would find him, independent Freddie didn’t like the idea of being told what to do and they would often corral him back home. Unfortunately, his owner’s health started to decline and they had to move to an assisted living facility. Unable to bring him, Freddie had nowhere else to go and eventually found himself at the local municipal shelter. Freddie was in desperate need of grooming, neutering, and dental work. OC’s veterinary assistance program provided funds to help with Freddie’s medical care. He had quite a lot of dental work done, which left Freddie with only two teeth! Freddie was also diagnosed with a stage 4 heart murmur.
Once healed from surgery, the municipal shelter felt it was best for Freddie to receive additional care and training to best support him and set him up for success prior to being adopted into a home. When space opened at the Sanctuary, we welcomed Freddie into our care in December of 2024 at around 8.5 years old.
This Pom needed no time at all to settle in with us and absolutely loved all the attention from his newfound friends! Our team of staff and volunteers have been working on Freddie to help with his need to door dart and we’ve seen great improvements! Since he also had a habit of free roaming throughout his life, staff have also been working on getting Freddie more comfortable with being leashed for walks. We also have scheduled an echocardiogram to learn more about his heart murmur. It’s been such great fun learning more about Freddie’s spunky, loving, and vibrant personality! He is very friendly and affectionate, and absolutely loves playing with his toys! We look forward to continuing his training and his search for a home!
