On the Dark Side – October Sanctuary Update
Hi Everyone!
I am a huge fan of all things creepy and spooky, so this is definitely my favorite time of year. I’ve got back to back horror movies playing at my house, and an eye out for any ghost tour I can make it to (if anyone else is so inclined, Norwich has some great ghost story tours). But there is one thing that is by far my favorite spooky thing in life: black cats! Ever since my little Celeste came into my life over 20 years ago, there has never been a moment without a black cat in my house. Right now I have two spooky little boys, Colin and Thrasher. So I thought it would be fun to highlight all of the sanctuary guests that show off their dark sides. Enjoy!
Rosie’s Roundup
Hi Everyone!
With Halloween behind us, that means that the holiday season is fast approaching. And with those visions of feasts and lights and ribbons and bows also comes quickly filling up calendars. Parties, travel, events, and all those things that make the season as the joyful as it is can also create time conflicts with the most important thing in your life: me and all of my furry friends at the sanctuary. But year after year we make it work with people stepping up to fill in the gaps and help out wherever needed. So, my request for all of you amazing volunteers, as it is every year, is to please let your volunteer managers know as soon as possible if you won’t be able to fill your regular time slots, and also, please let your managers know if you can pick up times to help fill in for others and their holiday plans. Everyone pitching in together will make all the difference in keeping the sanctuary running smoothly while everyone enjoys the blessings of the season.
See you soon!

And of Course…Adoptions!!
We’ve had a super exciting October at the Sanctuary! Long time cat residents Wallace and Totti went home, as did mischief maker Dunkin. And on the dog team, we had not one, but two dogs go home! Brooke went home after her many years with us here, and so did little Wiley! Joining our circus here this month were Salem and Zoe in cats, and Otto in dogs!
We had to say goodbye to a very special resident this month. Mimi was a big personality with a big voice who will be dearly missed on the cat team. She came to us with a couple of other special needs cats from an owner who had to move into assisted living and couldn’t take all of her six special needs cats with her. Mimi was an older girl who was blind and incontinent. And I don’t mean little drips, Ralph-style incontinent, I mean big puddles everywhere kind of incontinent. But once you spent a few minutes with Mimi, instantly any and all care she required became clearly worth it. She was so full of love for everyone and anyone that you couldn’t help but love her back. And, as any one of our cat staff and volunteers would tell you, this is a big part of what we do at the sanctuary. Taking in animals with no other options and giving them the life they deserve is central to our mission, even when that means caring for them in their final days. It’s a gift to welcome a cat like Mimi into our lives, and a gift to see her pass with comfort and love. Thank you to everyone who helped share in her time with us.
Thank you all so much for whatever way you support us and our mission. We couldn’t do it without you.
