Background Story:
Onyx is a male Black Syrian Hamster that comes to us from a hamster rescue in Maine. The rescue heard about our grand opening of Suzanne’s Place, our first small animal cottage, and contacted us seeking assistance with placing seven hamsters. We welcomed a group of eight hamsters from the rescue in July of 2024, when Onyx was about two months old.
During his time with us, we learned that Onyx can be quite shy about being picked up and appreciates his friends being slow and gentle with him. Though a bit shy, he is quite energetic, especially at night! He will run on his wheel all night long and make very elaborate burrowed tunnels in his habitat- so very impressive! His friends even joke that he likes to “party all night” with how active he is! We’re glad he’s enjoying his time with us and learning how to trust his friends more and more each day!

Onyx the hamster is ready to spread joy and entertainment in a forever home! He is a dark brown Syrian hamster, born in March 2024. Now that he’s been with our staff and volunteers for playtimes and socializing, he doesn’t mind being picked up and will never turn down a treat! When he takes a treat from you, he might not put them in his cheek like most hamsters, but is known to drop them onto his belly while he’s lounging and take the next one offered! Someone get this cutie a recliner! Onyx loves to lounge but also enjoys time on his hamster wheel! He will do well in many home environments that will give him the love and care he so greatly deserves, space for supervised free roaming, and a habitat all to himself.
