Background Story:
Onyx is a male Black Syrian Hamster that comes to us from a hamster rescue in Maine. The rescue heard about our grand opening of Suzanne’s Place, our first small animal cottage, and contacted us seeking assistance with placing seven hamsters. We welcomed a group of eight hamsters from the rescue in July of 2024, when Onyx was about two months old.
During his time with us, we learned that Onyx can be quite shy about being picked up and appreciates his friends being slow and gentle with him. Though a bit shy, he is quite energetic, especially at night! He will run on his wheel all night long and make very elaborate burrowed tunnels in his habitat- so very impressive! His friends even joke that he likes to “party all night” with how active he is! We’re glad he’s enjoying his time with us and learning how to trust his friends more and more each day!

Onyx the hamster is our expert tunneler at only 4 months old! He is very energetic, enjoys running on his wheel and burrowing through his habitat. He is a busy boy and enjoys lots of enrichment and chew toys! He is making great strides in getting used to being handled and would appreciate a gentle and patient person to call his own.
