Rehoming Program
Our goal at Our Companions is keeping pets and people together. However, when that is not possible, we offer our Rehoming Program where your pet stays in your home while we search for their next home.
Our Rehoming Program aims to keep your pet in their current living situation, while we utilize our resources, media platforms, and marketing partnerships to find a suitable adopter and home that will best meet their needs.
Your pet will move from your home to their next home, rather than moving to a shelter. This reduces stress for the pet and helps with the transition process for pets as they settle into their new life.
Please keep in mind, our Rehoming Program isn’t suitable for immediate placement situations.
Instead, our goal is to find loving homes for each pet and to facilitate customized adoptions that meet both the adopter and animal’s needs for a wonderful life together.
Our Rehoming Program welcomes dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and many more small animals. This program best serves the Connecticut and southern Massachusetts area and does not have a long distance option.
Once your pet is accepted into our Rehoming Program, your pet will be entered in our Adoption Program and assigned a caseworker. Your caseworker will be in touch with you to learn more about your pet, discuss what type of home/adopter would be best, and inform you of next steps in our program.
If you are considering our Rehoming Program for behavioral or medical challenges with your pet, we encourage you to contact our Helpline.
Our dedicated, specially trained team can assist in addressing any animal-related issues, all of which is provided as a free public service. You can leave a message on at 860-242-9999 or email [email protected] and our team will contact you within 24-48 hours.
Dogs
Below are detailed documents that outline our Rehoming Program for dogs. Please carefully read each document and note the evaluation, vetting, and photo requirements to ensure your dog is eligible for this program. Once we receive the completed forms and vet records, we will schedule an evaluation for your dog at our Valerie Friedman Program Center in Manchester, CT.
During the evaluation, we will meet with you and your dog, learn more about their personality, and gather additional information to help determine what type of home would be best for your dog.
