Minnie’s Mews our newest cat cottage will enable us to offer care to more under-socialized cats than ever before. This subpopulation already makes up a large percentage of our Sanctuary cats. These are incredibly shy cats who usually come from difficult situations such as hoarding or neglect cases, secluded home environments, or being semi-feral. These “shy guys,” as we call them, need a lot of time, space, and quiet to learn to be comfortable around people. There will be two rooms dedicated to a behavioral protocol called “fearful to friendly” that has shown remarkable success in getting reactive, fearful cats comfortable and happy around people. As with senior dogs, we’ve been able to find permanent homes for many shy, under-socialized cats through this method.
