The Board – September Sanctuary Update

Hi Everyone!

These updates from myself, Lindsey, and Jill spend lots of time praising our cat, dog, and maintenance volunteers. And rightfully so. Without our volunteers, providing proper health and behavioral care for the dogs and cats would be nearly impossible, and the Sanctuary would very much grind to a halt. And of course, our fantastic staff should always get their due for the great work they do. But if you pull back the curtain, there’s another group of people who make huge sacrifices of time and resources to help steer this ship and keep us on the right track as we move into the future. They are our Board of Directors. So let me shine a little light for you all on this vital, but rarely seen, part of our organization, as I share pictures of a recent Board gathering at the Sanctuary.

So when I say the words “Board of Directors,” you probably picture a bunch of stiff, uptight people in uncomfortable suits sitting around a giant table making critical judgements of everything. I know that’s pretty close to what I had in mind the first time I joined in on an Our Companions Board meeting. But nothing could be further from reality. This eclectic group of passionate animal lovers are friendly, fun, and deeply concerned for the well being of our canine and feline residents, many of whom they will never even meet. They bring an immense and diverse set of skills and knowledge to the table, and freely share those skills and knowledge to do whatever they can to help Our Companions run effectively and responsibly. They are a huge part of why Our Companions has been as successful as we have been.  We are all so hugely grateful to have them.

Simon Says

Hi Everyone!

This is a pretty fun place!  Obviously for us furry guests, but it also seems like you humans are having a pretty good time as well.  In addition to the day in, day out fun, I’ve seen two parties here this month, The board meeting and a staff lunch gathering.  It’s nice to see you all getting to relax and enjoy yourselves with all the hard work you put in.  But now, the biggest party yet is coming up in just a couple of weeks.  October 16th is the Sanctuary Birthday Party to celebrate 10 years of helping vulnerable animals at the sanctuary, and to thank the volunteers for all they do.  And with such a special milestone to celebrate, the staff here have something special planned for the day.  We’ll be burying a time capsule to send some love to the staff and volunteers here in 2032!  If you are attending the party, please bring a note or a small memento (please keep it small) to let future sanctuary family members know what this place has meant to you.  If you’re not able to attend, you can leave your note or item with Jill or Lindsey.  We will have a ceremony to view the items and read some of the notes.  If you have any questions, please contact Jon at [email protected].  See you then!

Thanks!

Simon

And of Course…Adoptions!!

As always, September was a bit of a slow month for adoption action.  No one went home this month from the dogs or cats, but we did welcome in a trio of cuties, Reddi-Whip, Meringue, and Marshmallow. A ghostly bunch arriving just in time for Halloween!

Thank you all so much for whatever way you support us and our mission. We couldn’t do it without you.

Jon Phillips
